Amanda Bossard, fresh out of Anchorage High School in 1992 began her studies in marine biology. Bossard got her start in the industry of commercial seafood in 1999. In that year she was employed as a fisherman on Murat Aritan's 65 foot halibut boat, which was later converted into a fish tender. Bossard is currently married to Aritan and they've joined together to assert their rights to the industry. Both of them are the direction of preserving resources and maximizing profits. Otolith is an independent wholesale distributor of seafood that was started by a woman in Philadelphia in 2007 by a woman who is now the mother of two young children: Bella age 3 and Andre aged 1. Her husband and she are separated by 5 months plus more to allow her to focus on her finances as well as environmental concerns. Bossard with her son Andre 10, and Isabella 12 return every year in Southeast Alaska as deckhands to collect wild salmon in the summer. They use hooks and line to collect their fish, after which they join Aritan for local processors for 2 months. After that, they increase their direct seafood sales via Otolith Sustainable Seafood.
